Which brings me to the Alito hearings, a perfect instance for the left's triangle to change conventional wisdom, to shape public opinion. But rather than a Democratic triumph, the Alito hearings have thrown the dichotomy between the netroots and the Democratic leadership into even starker relief, illustrating the profound dysfunction of the left’s triangle. As well, the depth and breadth of media complicity and the obliviousness of so many Democrats to it, is alarming. From the choreography of Specter and Alito creating the "open mind on abortion" soundbite that media outlets dutifully ran with, to the Sen. Graham/Mrs. Alito tear-fest that should have prompted Dems to slam the Republicans for bringing the Judge's wife to tears but instead turned into another Dem-bashing occasion, to the complete failure of the Democratic leadership to create the appropriate tone of outrage (in soundbite form), the chronic breakdown of the establishment and media sides of the left's triangle is apparent.
I guess one of my 2006 resolutions is just to blog more regularly and to write more about my interests, daily observations, and activities. I 've been getting a little heavy on the politics for the last few months, and quite frankly, it jsut seems like i'm just banging my head on a wall with that at times.
Anyone interested in starting a group blog on politics and/or current affairs in 2006? Drop me a line.
Sara and Jonathan both post about the new cafe in Midtown Harrisburg, Jackie Blue (formerly Double Jack's Tavern). The food sounds good and check out Jonathan's photos (it's pretty modern in there!). I've gotta check it out sometime.
Now that there's only 9 months or so left until my wedding, I'm really starting to get a bit stressed that there's still a lot to do (caterer, flowers, tuxes, cake, finalize the honeymoon) before September and that it'll be here before we know it. I would recommend a wedding assistant, like the one my fiancee hired. She's not really a 'wedding planner' like more affluent folks might hire to totally plan an event. It's more like she's there for suggetions, ideas, and keeping a realisitic timeline for planning and scheduling everything. Quite an invaluable array of services at times. And worth the money, if you have it. Hopefully, it'll be the festival that we envision it being. I'm mainly concerned with everyone just having a good time.
You'd have to be an evil sonofabitch to exploit this tragedy to pursue your agenda (via TPM) :
The Rev. Pat Robertson said Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is being punished by God for dividing the Land of Israel. Robertson, speaking on the “700 Club” on Thursday, suggested Sharon, who is currently in an induced coma, and former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, assassinated by an Israeli extremist in 1995, were being treated with enmity by God for dividing Israel. “He was dividing God’s land,” Robertson said. “And I would say, Woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the E.U., the United Nations or the United States of America. God says, This land belongs to me. You better leave it alone.”
And the parting line:
I hadn't realized that god was an assassin who takes orders from televangelists. I'm sure prayer time at the Robertson household is a hoot :
"Dear Jesus, please kill the following people...."
Yeah, let's just go over this once more. A man who cons people into giving him money to uphold the Christian way of life (whatever that is) and then uses his pulpit to spew hate at whomever he wants is not a Reverend in any sense of the word. He's certainly not a Christian.
If you're a regular or semi-regular reader of AMERICAblog (by John Aravosis and friends), then please consider donating whatever spare change that you can afford to the site. John does a lot more work for the cause than Ab reflects and, if you like the posts there, why not chip in a little for site upkeep and the eventual move to a new server?
Here are the facts that they wish to "fog up" for Americans to digest more easily:
NO Democrats received money directly from Abramoff, his wife, or the other companies that are known to be corrupt fronts run by Abramoff and his buddies.
Democrats only received money form Abramoff clients who may or may not have been influenced to donate money to them by Abramoff. It is unlikely that Abramoff told his clients to do this as many people who wish to influence policy in DC routinely donate to members of all parties. Besides, Abramoff was heavily involved with the K Street Project that basically is a money machine for the Reublican party.
The people who were all buddy buddy with Abramoff were all Republicans. This is indisputable. Even the President took $100,000 from him without caring where the money was coming from.
Part of Abramoff's scheme involved getting money from Russian interests to American congresspersons (see: Tom Delay). It is still illegal, last time I checked, under the American system of campaign finance to accept contributions from foreigners. Once again, NO Democrats were involved in this sort of behavior.
NO evidence points to Dmeocrats accepting money form Abramoff and ilk for more-or-less direct quid pro quo to donors. All the evidence currently, and likely in the future, will point to Republicans.
More on this as facts come out. Thank God Rick Santorum is likely to lead the investigation in the Senate. Nothing will get swept under the rug on his watch...
